Knowing which links your subscribers click is one of the best ways to measure the success of your content. Noptin allows you to see exactly who clicked a link, which link they clicked, and how many times they clicked it.

This guide explains how to enable click tracking, where to view click data, and alternative tracking options.

How to Enable or Disable Click Tracking

To track link engagement, you must first enable the performance tracking setting.

To do this:

  1. Navigate to Noptin > Settings.
  2. Click on the Emails tab.
  3. Go to Tracking.
  4. Toggle the Track campaign performance option to your preference.
Enable open tracking

When enabled, Noptin will record email opens and link clicks for your campaigns.

Once tracking is enabled, you can monitor link activity in two ways:

1. View Clicks Per Campaign

To see how links performed within a specific newsletter or automated email, go to Noptin > Email Campaigns and select either Newsletters, Automated emails, or Sequences / Courses.

View clicks per campaign

Noptin will display the total number of clicks for that campaign. You can click on the click count link to reveal:

  1. The actual email addresses of every person who clicked a link.
View addresses that clicked
  1. A breakdown of which specific links were clicked within the email.
Link click breakdown
  1. A “Clicks” activity graph showing when the engagement happened (e.g., clicks per day since the send date).

2. View Clicks Per Subscriber

Go to Noptin > Subscribers to view how each person clicks on links over time. Look for the Total links clicked and Last email clicked date columns to see their overall activity level.

You can click on a specific subscriber to see their profile, which includes their personal click rate and the total number of emails they have received.

This is useful for segmenting engaged subscribers or identifying inactive contacts.

Tracking Clicks Without Enabling Campaign Tracking

If you prefer not to enable campaign tracking (for example, due to privacy policies or compliance requirements), you can still measure performance using UTM parameters.

UTM parameters allow you to track email traffic inside tools such as Google Analytics without storing per-subscriber engagement data in WordPress.

Important Limitations of Click Tracking

Click tracking works by routing links through a tracking URL before redirecting the subscriber to the final destination.

While click tracking is generally more accurate than open tracking, there are still a few technical limitations to keep in mind:

LimitationDescription
Security ScannersSome corporate email servers (especially in B2B environments) use automated “bots” to click links in incoming emails to check for malware. This can occasionally cause a “click” to be recorded before the human recipient even opens the message.
RedirectsNoptin tracks clicks by briefly routing the user through a tracking URL before sending them to the final destination. If your site is experiencing significant slowness or server issues, this may cause a slight delay in the user reaching the final page.

Click tracking is generally more reliable than open tracking, but it should still be interpreted as engagement data rather than the absolute truth.
