Noptin allows you to track which subscribers opened a campaign and view detailed engagement statistics.
This guide explains how to enable open tracking, where to view results, and the limitations of email open tracking.
Enable or Disable Open Tracking
Before you can see who is opening your emails, you must ensure the tracking feature is active.
To do this:
- Navigate to Noptin > Settings.
- Click on the Emails tab.
- Go to Tracking.
- Toggle the Track campaign performance option to your preference.

When enabled, Noptin will record email opens and link clicks for your campaigns.
Where to View Email Opens
Once tracking is enabled, you can view engagement data in two primary locations:
1. View Opens Per Campaign
To see how a specific email performed, go to Noptin > Email Campaigns and select either Newsletters, Automated emails, or Sequences / Courses.

For each campaign, Noptin displays the number of recipients who opened the email. You can click on the open count link to reveal:
- The actual email addresses of every person who opened the campaign.

- An “Opens” activity graph showing engagement over time. For example, if the campaign was sent one week ago, the graph will show the number of opens per day over that period. This helps you understand when subscribers are most active.
2. View Opens Per Subscriber
Go to Noptin > Subscribers to view how each person interacts with your brand over time.
You will see columns for:
- Total emails sent/opened and total links clicked.
- Dates for the last email sent, opened, and clicked.
- Email Engagement Score: A calculated metric of how active that user is.
You can click on a specific subscriber to see their profile, which includes their personal open rate and the total number of emails they have received.
This helps you identify highly engaged subscribers or inactive contacts.
Limitations of Email Open Tracking
While these stats are incredibly useful for spotting trends, it is important to understand that email tracking is not 100% accurate due to modern privacy standards:
Important limitations include:
| Limitation | Description |
|---|---|
| Image-based tracking | Noptin (and almost all email tools) tracks opens by embedding a tiny, invisible image (a “pixel”) in the email. If a subscriber blocks images, the open may not be recorded even if they read the email. |
| Privacy protection features | Some email providers (such as Apple Mail Privacy Protection) automatically “load” all images on a proxy server. This can result in inflated open rates, making it look like a user opened an email when they actually didn’t. |
| Forwarded emails | If a subscriber forwards your email, additional opens may be recorded that do not reflect the original recipient’s activity. |
| Text-only emails | If the recipient views the email in plain-text mode, opens cannot be tracked. |
Because of these limitations, open rates should be treated as an estimate rather than an exact measurement. For more reliable engagement insights, also monitor link clicks and overall subscriber activity.
