When you send an email, you often want to know how much traffic and revenue it’s actually driving to your website. Noptin makes this easy by automatically adding UTM parameters to your links.
What are UTM Parameters?
UTM parameters are tags added to the end of URLs that help you track where your website traffic comes from. When someone clicks a link with UTM parameters, your analytics tool can identify the source, medium, and campaign that brought them to your site.
Example:
https://yoursite.com/product?utm_source=noptin&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Newsletter-February-13-2026
The standard UTM parameters include:
| Parameter | Purpose |
|---|---|
| utm_source | Identifies which platform sent the traffic (e.g., noptin, newsletter) |
| utm_medium | Identifies the marketing medium (e.g., email, social, cpc) |
| utm_campaign | Identifies the specific campaign (e.g., Newsletter – February 13, 2026) |
| utm_term | Identifies paid search keywords (optional) |
| utm_content | Identifies different versions of the same ad or link (optional) |
How to enable
By default, Noptin has link tagging turned on. If you need to check or change this setting:
- Go to Noptin > Settings in your WordPress dashboard.
- Click on the Emails tab.
- Scroll down to the Tracking section.
- Toggle the Auto-tag links (UTM) switch to the “On” position.

When enabled, Noptin will automatically add UTM parameters to all links in your email campaigns, making it easy to track campaign performance without manually tagging each link.
Customize Tracking for a Specific Email
While Noptin handles the technical side automatically, you can customize the “tags” for each individual campaign to keep your data organized.
Inside the Email Editor, click on the Settings tab and expand the UTM Parameters section.

You will see the following options:
- UTM Source: Tells you where the traffic is coming from (Defaults to
noptin). - UTM Medium: Tells you the marketing channel (Defaults to
email). - UTM Campaign: The specific name of your email (Defaults to your Campaign Name).
- UTM Term & Content: These are optional fields used for advanced tracking, such as identifying specific links or keywords. If you leave these blank, they won’t be added to your links.
If you don’t feel like filling these out for every email, don’t worry! Noptin will automatically use the default values mentioned above, so you never miss out on data.
Disabling Tracking for a Single Email
If you have global tracking turned on but want to send a specific email without any tracking tags:
- Open that specific email in the editor.
- Go to Settings > UTM Parameters.
- Toggle the Disable UTM tracking switch.

This will prevent Noptin from appending tags to the links in that specific email campaign only.
How to View Your Data in Google Analytics (GA4)
Once you’ve sent your email and subscribers start clicking, you can see the results in your Google Analytics dashboard.
- Log in to Google Analytics.
- Go to Reports (the graph icon on the left).
- Navigate to Acquisition > Traffic acquisition.
- In the table, look for the column labeled Session source/medium.
- You should see entries like
noptin / email.

To view specific campaigns, click the small blue + icon next to “Session source/medium.” Then search for “Session campaign”. This will show which email newsletter generated the most traffic.
